The Big Race Hamilton and friends were sitting around talking listening to Starlit Troll tell, about all her adventures she’s had in her life. Everyone thought she was swell. She had just told a story about flying real high on wings that she made from leaves. To fly in the sky way above the world will completely change your beliefs. Hamilton listened and although quite impressed it really did make him wonder’ “I’m good at a lot, I can do many things and I’m no longer fearful of thunder. I’ll bet I can do anything she can do and I bet I can do it better!” But how could Hamilton say this to her? He didn’t want to upset her. “Starlit you say you have done all these things some things I can hardly believe. Why don’t you show us these things you have done? Help someone else to achieve?” Mistaking his words, Starlit just heard, how Hamilton didn’t believe her. She stood up upset, and started to leave. He could see that her feelings were hurt. “Wait! Don’t go away. I didn’t mean what I said. Please Starlit don’t be mad.” But Starlit just stood there with angry, crossed arms, and everyone knew this was bad. “I’ll tell you what,” Starlit began, as an idea filled up her face. “I think I’ll prove to you just what I can do, and I think it’ll be in a race.” You all set it up, make the track really hard, and you tell us both what to do. Then Hamilton and I will race for the end, and I’ll prove my stories are true. So the animals gathered and came up with hurdles, from the easy to the hard. Then they decided the route the trolls would take throughout the entire yard. First you’ll both run through the frog’s muddy swamp, then over to the owls tallest tree. You’ll climb to the top, then leap to the next, like a squirrel, so we can see. Then you’ll make your way out to the Stick-Nut field where two roadrunners will be waiting for you. You’ll ride them around touching each of the mats, and then run out to the river blue. You’ll dive in the waters and swim to the dam; the Beaver Bothers home. Then run past the tree stump of Hamilton’s place, passing his bright green dome. Then after that it’s a race to the finish, the first one to cross the grass line, will get to keep this gold trophy we found, all yours, that once was mine. The crowd ooh’d and ahh’d, what a marvelous gift to give to the troll who would win. And suddenly Hamilton knew he’d succeed, standing proud with a really large grin. This was his home, and he’d done all those things and he knew that he could be fast. So he turned to friend Starlit saying “Want to drop out?” Starlit couldn’t believe he asked. With a scowl on her face she was ready to show him. She’d leave that troll in her dust! Then he’d have proof that she was these things, and she’d regain his trust. “Ready? Get set!” They stood on the line, angry glances shot back and forth. As Filbert Frog croaked to start the big race, the trolls took off to the north. The mud it was thick and it slowed them both down, but Hamilton came through it first. He took off as fast as his troll feet could take him. He was beaming with pride, he could burst! And as he shimmied straight up to the top of the tree, he did well during the climb. But Starlit was quickly catching up to him. She was really making up time. At the tip of the tree limb Hamilton knew, how to jump from one tree to the other because of the time he’d spent with a squirrel. Chatterton was like his brother. But on his way down Hamilton slowed, especially when Starlit flew by, Using the leaves from the tree they were in like wings. Why didn’t he try? By the time he landed and ran to the field to ride the roadrunners around, Hamilton was glad he could sit and rest. That his feet were up off the ground. But as he rode ‘round the field he nearly fell off, as the ride on this back was quite bumpy. Yet Starlit held tight and made an advance, Hamilton was feeling quite grumpy. Starlit dove in the water, right before him, but Hamilton caught up to her fast. Before she knew it, he was up on the ground. She quickly caught up and passed. They were neck to neck, one, then the other, the crowds on the edge of their seat. All they could see were two sets of blurs, that were really fast moving feet! The grass line was coming, and Hamilton felt, he could win this. He’s so very close! But a rock on the path was right in his way and he tripped on it with his bare toes. As he fell to the ground in a thump in the dust of Starlit who ran to the end. He looked at her celebrating her win, and felt anger towards his new friend. When she walked up to him, carrying her trophy she offered him her hand. But he slapped it away, angrily scowling He just did not understand. As he walked away quietly, leaving his friends he was feeling really embarrassed. His group of friends looked at Starlit, “What’s with him?” they asked. A little while later, while Hamilton sulked in his Hide Away Flop in the dark, he was taken aback when a shimmering light flew towards him like a small spark. It was Pink Light Sprite and her smile was fantastic she really did light a room. She landed next to Hamilton Troll, And asked, “What’s with your gloom?” “I lost the race, but I should have won, I tripped and fell and feel bad.” Pink light smiled as she looked at the troll, “Starlit won, aren’t you glad?” “I wanted to win! It’s not fair that I didn’t! I tried my best and I lost.” “So you’re sitting alone, here in the dark? For how long and at what cost?” Are you willing to sit here all by yourself, until all of your friends move away? Are you going to sulk forever about this? And waste every precious day? Will you allow your feelings to rule your life because of one lost race? Are you too proud to congratulate Starlit, and tell her so, face to face?” Hamilton realized that he had been wrong and Pink Light Sprite was sincere. So he stood up and thanked Pink Light for her help, then wiped away a tear. I’ll go tell her now, that she won and I’m glad. That it really was a good race. She had every right to win that trophy, because she came in first place. “Good for you!” Pink Light sang happily as she lifted up towards the sky. May you always congratulate the winner, and may you always try!” As friends again he spoke these words; life’s challenges put you to the test. But win or lose you’ll always succeed so long as you do your best!

Around the World in 80 Days is an mini adaptation of the classic adventure novel by the French author Jules Verne, published in 1873. Follow British gentleman Phileas Fogg and his French Valet Passepartout as they try to circumnavigate the world in 80 days to win the wager put up by Fogg's friends at the Reform Club. They leave from London by train at 8:45 P.M. on October 2; in order to win the wager, Fogg must return to the club by this hour on December 21, 80 days later. Each leg of the journey Fogg and Passepartout have frustrating, exciting and sometimes dangerous encounters that threaten to prevent them from completing the trip on time. The children's book adaption, originally done for a board book, has beautifully done illustrations from key points in the race around the world along with words done in English and French to challenge your young reader.

BoBo the Race Car was disappointed that all his efforts to prepare for last year’s race were not enough to put him in the Victory Circle. This year was going to be different! BoBo's friends heard many stories about how “tricky” the Pocono Raceway really was. It was more challenging than any of the other tracks they have ever raced on. They practiced everyday doing lap after lap, making those “very tricky” turns as fast as they could.

BoBo is an awesome race car. His dream is to win a big race and be in the winner’s circle. So, you can just imagine how excited he was when he read that the Poco Race Track was having their first big racing event. He eagerly picked up the phone and called all his friends. He was thrilled when his friends Gator, Big Foot and Saber wanted to join him in the race. During their practice laps BoBo noticed that his friend Big Foot was having serious problems on the track. BoBo and all his friends knew that Big Foot needed their help, but trying to convince Big Foot was not going to be easy. Just imagine these competing race cars jeopardizing their chances to be in the winner’s circle in order to help their friend! Their confidence, determination and unselfish efforts to help their friend compete in the race are inspirational.
