It was that first miracle that softened the hearts of the others and inspired them to lead a God-filled life as well.This story is about love, acceptance, kindness and giving. Chatterton Squirrel noticed the really big leaves that Hamilton called his dome. “You told me a story,” he started to say “at least part of it I think. About a rainy day and how you met a Sprite that I think you called her Pink? You told how she helped you one day long ago, to protect your home’s open hole. To help keep it from flooding, when the rain would drip down that was your ultimate goal. But why, may I ask, did you dig your home here? When there are so many trees nearby?” Hamilton smiled just a bit as he thought “I will tell you the reason why.” - A few years ago. - It was a very cold December day, when this gloomy tale begins. The leaves had fallen from the trees, thanks to the blowing winds. But Hamilton’s tree stood tall and proud, evergreen as it could be, The smell of pine was very strong, from this amazing tree. Hamilton sat there alone in his home, trying to stay warm. When suddenly the sound of something bad started up like a thunder storm. It was really quite noisy, it growled and screamed, not like the thunder does. And it kept on growling without a breath, Hamilton didn’t know what it was. Afraid to come out of his hole at that time, he trembled in the dark and hid. As pieces of pine needles fell in his hole. Hamilton shivered, he did. Then all of a sudden as quick as it started, the awful sound finally stopped. And as the bright of the day shone in through his hole, The final pine needle dropped. He waited a moment or two, maybe three, then stuck his head out his hole. He turned towards his tree and saw it was gone. He nearly lost all control. His jaw dropped to the ground, his eyes opened wide, his heart began beating real quick. He was staring at nothing, in front of his eyes, but it had to have been a bad trick. He climbed up his ladder, ran quick down the path, To Merle Mouse’s small nest. He ran through the door, without an invite, where Merle was getting dressed. “Hamilton!” Merle yelled as jumped to his feet and quickly turned around. Hamilton out of breath gasping real hard asked “Did you hear that terrible sound?” Merle shook his head, confused by his friend, He stared at the trembling troll. Tell me what happened, my dear little friend. He took his hand to console. So Hamilton explained what he had heard While taking Merle’s hand. He dragged his friend out of his home really fast and raced him across the land. As they stopped right in front of Hamilton’s home, Merle did not recognize it. Without the big tree, so gallant and green, The scenery just didn’t fit. Hamilton stared at the stump so in pain, he couldn’t take his eyes off. But Merle mouse looked off to the distance and suddenly started to cough. “Hamilton,” he choked as he pointed that way “Doesn’t that look like your tree?” Hamilton looked and watched as they dragged it, by humans totaling three. “What are they doing?” he wondered aloud, taking in all the details. A big man and woman were dragging his tree and a child moving slower than snails. He watched them walk off, dragging his tree As they disappeared from sight. Then he turned to Merle again while in shock and simply asked him, “Why?” “I think this is a case for Rachel Raccoon, she knows all about human beings. She might could explain why they took your tree. She knows lots about these things. Rachel Raccoon is a really smart critter, They call her the creature’s detective, Solving cases and problems, is all that she does Finding answers is Rachel’s objective. So they took off towards Rachel’s. They ran really fast. They didn’t stop once at all. And when they both struck her door with all of their force, they rolled through it like a big ball. “Oh my!” Rachel spoke as she stared at the two face down out of breath by her feet. “I hadn’t expected to have guests stopping by, but I am glad you two did, that is sweet.” Once they caught their breath they spoke really quick, explaining what they heard, did and saw. Rachel had an idea about this odd case, A hard conclusion to draw. She said “I will investigate and follow your tree. The humans do not bother me. But Hamilton you must prepare yourself to never again see your tree.” It was much later that day when Rachel returned her head bent down and low. It was just as she thought and no matter what, she knew Hamilton had to know. All the woods creatures gathered to stare at the stump. It was weird that the tree was not here. And as Rachel explained what had happened to it, Hamilton let loose a tear. “My dear friend Hamilton, it pains me to say this as I look upon your sad face. But your tree has a new home, a wonderful home. It really does look in place. Let me tell you a story the humans do tell, it really is quite neat. It’s about beauty and love and giving of gifts. It’s a holiday story time treat. So Rachel filled the small animal’s heads with stories of coming Christmas. Of stockings and gifts and lights with bright colors And all of this holiday bliss. Then she told them about the bold Christmas tree all adorned with large ornaments. Trinkets and toys, lots of candy and joys and boxes with colorful prints. “On Christmas morning the family will wake and go sit around our nice tree. They’ll talk and they’ll sing and share with each other. It’s really a great sight to see.” Hamilton started to feel a bit better about this even though he wasn’t that sure, why they picked his home a regular pine. Maybe he should go on a tour? “Rachel,” he asked can I go see my tree? Can I witness this wonderful day?” Hamilton knew the journey’d be hard, But nothing could keep him away. So Rachel said “Fine. In two morning suns we’ll go to their living room window. And watch as the family shares by your tree surrounded by lights all aglow.” So Hamilton waited, excited and sad his home didn’t seem quite the same. The mornings were brighter thanks to the sun. He was grateful when night time came. His tree had provided shelter and shade. It had made his home feel secure. It would take quite a long time to get used to this If he ever would, he was sure. So the next early morning while it was still dark, he and Rachel walked into town. Hamilton frightened by the big human things. He showed his fear with a frown. As they came to the window the lights glowing out seemed warm with green, red and gold. The two of them slowly peeked into the house, the scenery vibrant and bold. They watched in with silence as the family came down. Excitement showed on their face. Then they settled down snug together the three, by the tree and a warm fire place. Hamilton watched them give gifts, and smile and stare at his beautiful evergreen tree. It was really a wonderful moment to him. It was truly quite worth it to see. He was proud of his tree though he really did miss it. It gave this family so much. It stood proud in their home beautifully dressed. To Hamilton his heart it did touch. As the two of them left that morning in silence the miracle shone on their face. Hamilton knew this was a good thing, that his tree wound up in this place. - Back to the present - “So Chatterton Squirrel,” Hamilton came to the end “That explains my tree stump. It may also explain why many loud sounds can easily make me jump. But most important it speaks of a wonderful day, one that I’ll always remember. It’s a beautiful thing that happens out there, every end of December.” And as the two of them stood up, and said their farewells, Hamilton knew he had shared. It may have been hard to give up his tree but it was worth it to show he cared.

Hamilton Troll meets Fiona the Dog It was a typical day in Hamilton’s woods All hard at work, gathering goods. The ants were collecting food for the Queen. The squirrels were busy, trying to clean. The birds were singing, as they taught youth to fly, Pointing high, higher up, in the brilliant blue sky. Hamilton hummed as he walked down the trail, When he heard Amara Armadilla yell. “Where is my broom? I had it right there! Who took my broom? Who? Who would dare?” Everyone stopped and all stood there silent. No one was guilty. No need to be violent. But Amara Armadilla was down right upset. She thought someone hid it, just certain, she’d bet. A few minutes later, he heard Rudy Rat, Screaming about, his now missing hat! “I took it off for a moment, and sat it right there. When I turned to retrieve it, it was missing. I swear!” Hamilton thought the wind blew it away. But Rudy was sure, it must be fowl play. He heard someone say that a wreath had gone missing, He looked over his shoulder, when he heard the snake hissing. Susie the snake always talked through her tooth But the one thing about her, she did tell the truth. Hamilton now worried, went back to his hole. He had to resolve this. That was his goal. But as he arrived, his eyes opened wide. His ladder was missing, he could not get inside! Feeling very upset, things truly were gone. Someone was stealing. “This is so wrong!” Standing there still, not sure what to do next, When he began to float off, he was truly perplexed! His feet dangled down, so far from the ground, He kicked and he punched, tried to look all around. But something had hold of him, gripped by his vest His favorite brown outfit, looking his best. Being carried away, farther than ever, He had not been this far, no, not this far, never! He started to panic, so full of fright, His home and his friends, just out of sight. When all of a sudden he was released. He fell. Then he landed and looked up at the beast. She was perfectly white, with long silky fur. She moved really quick, like a bright white blur. When she’d pause he saw ears, tall pointy and big. Hamilton ducked as she dropped a new twig. He looked at the pile of stuff he sat on, This was the stuff his friends said was gone. He found Amara’s broom and there’s Rudy’s hat, And that over there was a Merle’s welcome mat. He found bottles and wreaths and toys of all kinds, He found trinkets and charms and friends homemade signs. He looked and he looked and then, there it was, He found his old ladder, right next to some fuzz. Then all of a sudden, appeared a small log, He looked up again and saw that same dog. “Who are you?” He asked as he stood to look taller, Taking a glimpse at her pretty pink collar. “I’m Fiona” she said with a sharp little yip. She bounced when she spoke and ran with a skip. Hamilton stared at the pile she collected. “This isn’t your stuff.” He boldly objected. “Mine!” She said sweetly yet with quickness and fast. “Mine!” she repeated, not like she had asked. Her tail was wagging so quick that it blurred, And Hamilton decided to correct her word. “Those aren’t yours, they’re my friends. This stuff was taken. Not with permission, I think you’re mistaken.” “Mine! She repeated and smiled looking sweet. She liked her new stuff, she bounced on her feet. “No, no, that’s not yours.” Hamilton declared. He crossed both his arms and he stopped and he stared. Fiona then licked him, to make everything better. Over and over, he got wetter and wetter. He giggled and slapped and tried hard to block it. But she was so sweet, her tongue like a rocket. She said “Mine!” Again, then ran off towards the woods. Returning quite quickly with some more of her goods. “That’s Rachel Raccoons raggedy doll. And that over there is squirrels bouncy ball.” “Mine!” Fiona said, she did not understand. She looked at Hamilton point with his hand. “Not yours.” He repeated, trying to teach. “Not yours.” he declared, pointing to each. “Mine?” Came a question, Fiona looking confused. “Not yours.” He repeated, he smiled amused. “Not mine?” She said sadly, laying down on her paws. She listened as Hamilton told her the laws. Lowering her head, her ears folded down, Her smile went away. She now had a frown. Hamilton’s heart broke, she looked so sad. He had to find out, how to again make her glad. He looked at the stuff, gathered ‘round him with care, He looked at the objects. He saw Chipmunks’ chair. He knew to return them, though he worried at that: Would everyone be angry like Rudy the rat? Fiona seemed nice, just a little confused. He was sure with explaining, they’d just be amused. He said “Fiona, I got it. I know what to do.” “Mine?” She repeated standing happy and true. “No.” He confirmed as he called to her near. “We need to return these” He spoke in her ear.” Sitting down with a plop, looking puzzled by this, Maybe he’ll forget it, if I give him a kiss? She licked him again, as wet as before, He giggled and laughed, then fell to the floor. When he finally stood up, he said “That will not help.” “It’s mine, mine, mine, mine!” She declared with a yelp. “We’ve been through this Fiona, you must give it back. This was never yours, this treasure trove stack. I’ll help you return it, to everyone’s doors.” She stood up again, she stood on all fours. Her ears perked right up, her smile lit her face “Everything returned, back in its place?” “That’s right.” Hamilton smiled as they gathered a load. Hamilton on her back, he held on and rode. She returned all her things, making everyone glad No one was angry. No one was mad. Fiona had fun, but then perked up her ear. “What is she doing?” “What does she hear?” Her name being called, family out on a quest, Fiona barked loud, she puffed up her chest. “I must go back home now.” Then she took off and ran. “But I will be back, just the next time I can!”
