He loved to explore, to scratch and climb trees, he really loved honey, but he didn’t like bees. A curious cub so full of joy, he’s a happy-go-lucky, fluffy bear boy. One day while out walking he saw a fun sight, a colorful butterfly was about to take flight. He followed it far, far away from his cave, and into dark woods, but this bear cub was brave. He was nearing a clearing with a shimmering light, when he saw in an instant a curious sight. And as he approached his heart felt a force, as he gazed at a very beautiful horse. The little white horse lay down on the ground, he was all alone, no one around. He looked quite unwell, like he might have been ill, he hardly moved as he sat very still. His head was down low, his eyes nearly closed. The young bear approached him, and poked with his nose. “Hello mister horse, are you feeling okay? Why look so sad on such a fine day? The birds they are singing, the flowers in bloom, why mister horse, do you show so much gloom?” He lifted his head, and whispered his words, as Bear strained to hear him, over the birds. “I’ve been here a long time, haven’t eaten in days. My leg is trapped, I cannot get away. I feared this was it, I started to pray, and that’s when the light, showed you the way.” The sun shined brighter, and the bear pursed his eyes, as he realized he was brought here by those shimmering skies. Bear took a look and saw a vine in a knot, wrapped around the horse hoof, which is why he was caught. He pulled at the plant and tugged with his paw, then cut it away with his sharp little claw. “At last!” The horse whinnied as he stood up in glee, so happy and thankful he was finally free. He stood at attention and reared up to the sky. He stood on his hind legs and neighed a loud cry. Returning his hooves to the ground where they came, he galloped around the bear like a game. He rattled his head, his mane flowed behind; to the bear he was radiant - one of a kind. And then with a sparkle a spiraling horn, appeared on the head of this – Unicorn? A beautiful unicorn, he watched run by. Bear saved a unicorn! He could almost cry! The unicorn whinnied then walked up with style, introduced himself with a beaming smile. “I am a unicorn, and now you can see. Only the special can really see me. Your heart is pure and you weren’t afraid. You helped me - you saved me, this sunny spring day. Only the pure with good in their soul have the power and magic to see me as whole. Now that you have, you soon shall see others, who too have the horns like my sisters and brothers. So go now my friend and live your life knowing, that from now on a unicorn’s horn will be showing.” Little Bear skipped away so excited to know, that unicorns were real and their horns truly glow. He told all his friends, and some did believe, others just snickered, then took their leave. But one little bunny, her ears perked up sure, she hoped and she prayed that her heart would be pure. She had always loved unicorns, the magical beasts, now knowing they’re real, her hopes did increase. She stuck by the Bear, and prayed for the chance, to meet a real unicorn, would make her heart dance. One day the duo just happened across, a small baby squirrel that the wind did toss. He fell from his nest and was alone on the ground, when a fox came in view listening hard for the sound, of the cries of the squirrel who called for his mom, and the chattering fears of a mom hardly calm. Our Bear and Bunny knew of his fate, if they stood there in shock - this couldn’t wait! Bunny got the squirrel as Bear chased the fox, running after the fox who screamed in short squawks. They laughed and they sighed as they watched him high tail, across the field and way down the trail. The Mommy Squirrel thanked them, she almost cried. While Bear felt a warmth, fill him inside. “What is that?” Bunny asked, as she stood there in awe. She covered her mouth with the front of her paw. She pointed at Bear then gawked at the gold, she couldn’t believe what her eyes did behold. A spiraling cone, that forced her to stare, appeared on his head from under his hair. Bear touched his head crossed his eyes to view, a long golden stick, apparently grew. Little Bear had a horn - a unicorn bear? How could a unicorn horn appear there? “Let’s find that unicorn, since this is to me, quite odd for a bear to have a horn you can see. I thought a unicorn was always a horse. It’s a horse that has the magic, of a unicorn of course.” So they ran to the prairie, the clearing, the field, in hopes they’d find whose magic revealed, a gold horn to the brave, the purest of heart... How again could a bear, wear this fine golden art? They ran to the unicorn and asked him to wait. He stopped his advance and stood very straight. Then he looked at the bear and smiled just so, for he knew what had happened, with his horn all aglow. He heard both their stories and smiled with a smirk, knowing well it was rare that this magic would work. Then he asked them to sit and gave a loud neigh, then regaled them a story, of the magical way. “Unicorns are enchanted. We are rare indeed. To earn our horn a pure heart we need. We must save another who needs us true, we have to have the head to know what to do. And if we prove we are worthy we receive a horn, and change from a horse to a full unicorn. Yet once we are blessed with the magic within, we rarely need help,” he nodded his chin. So while this hasn’t happen in quite a long while, it is possible.” the unicorn smiled. “Since you saved my life you got to see, the magic within the magical me. Which gave you the gift, the power inside, to receive a horn - a unicorn’s pride. Then you saved another, the tables were turned and your friend must have helped you because she too learned, that once you receive the gold on your head, the magic will flourish, the magic will spread.” The more that you help, the more chances there are, for each of your friends, to shine like a star.” The young bear he smiled, enjoying his fate, when he spoke one last thing, “Unicorn wait!” The magical horse turned his head and he smiled, at this curious bear that was only a child. “What do I do now, how should I live? When everyone by me will want me to give? How will I know if their hearts are pure? I just don’t know how I could be sure?” The unicorn knew how the power provides. The bear would find out, that the magic decides… “It is not up to you. It is not by desire. It is given by something that is so much higher. It knows if you’ve earned it, if you can receive, and it’s not very easy for those to achieve. You must work for it daily, with love in your soul, and to become a unicorn must NOT be your goal. For when you least expect it, it will happen to you, but it takes yet another to see it through. You may have a horn and you just may not know it, but when another soul gets one, then you will show it.” “So do something or nothing, the choice here is yours, but imagine what would happen if you opened the doors. Since you helped a squirrel, when the squirrel helps others, and the line of those heroes help save a mother, and the mother saves a child, and a child saves a cat, imagine what love could come from all that? Imagine a world full of Unicorn horns, all filled with magic and all it adorns. The world would be pleasant. There would be no more hate, all evil gone. We’d have a clean slate. So go now my friend and help others care. It all started with you, the first Uni-Bear!”
